In this review, we’ll delve into the new Kendama USA Half Splits featuring the innovative Nova shape. Konami USA has transitioned from the popular Shift shape to introduce this new design, which has quickly become one of my personal favorites. Let’s explore the features, performance, and overall quality of this Kendama.

Packaging and Design

The Kendama USA NOVA Half Split comes in standard packaging, similar to its predecessor. Inside the box, you’ll find the kendama in a protective cage, along with a quick-start guide and a generous assortment of stickers. The kendama itself features minimalistic branding, with the Konami USA logo at the bottom and the Kaizen logo on the big cup. The tama design showcases a beautiful half split between two colors, with a white tracking dot on top for improved visibility. The bevel size is adequate, allowing for smooth stalls and reliable catches.

Nova Shape

The Nova shape distinguishes itself from the previous Shift shape by offering a larger yet still manageable size. Kendama USA has done an excellent job in finding the right balance, making it feel natural and comfortable to play with. This modern-sized shape enhances playability and eliminates any awkwardness that might arise with larger, clunkier shapes. The overall design of the Nova shape reflects a thoughtful and well-executed approach.

Performance

The NOVA Half Split delivers impressive all-around performance. It excels in juggling and allows for effortless flicks and taps. The lunar balance is solid, and stalls are satisfactory, although the kendama does not provide the same locked-in feeling as some other models. However, the double beach wood construction of the ken cushions stalls effectively, compensating for this slight drawback. The durable paint withstands rough treatment, and while it may not be exceptionally sticky out of the box, it improves over time with play, acquiring a textured grip.

Durability and Versatility

The Kendama USA NOVA Half Split is built to last. Despite subjecting it to rigorous use, including drops in the pool, sandy environments, and even on a sailing trip, it has shown remarkable resilience. This kendama can handle various adventures, making it perfect for taking on trips, sharing with friends, or introducing others to the joy of kendama. Its affordability allows for easy replacement, making it a go-to option for everyday play.

Conclusion

Overall, the Kendama USA NOVA Half Split showcases a compelling combination of design, performance, and durability. While it may not provide the stickiness of other paints, it compensates with its long-lasting and reliable grip. The Nova shape strikes an excellent balance between size and playability, making it a versatile choice for kendama enthusiasts. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player, the NOVA Half Split is a solid option to consider for your collection.
