invention of The kendama
The origins of Kendama are seen as a traditional Japanese cup and ball game that dates back to the 18th century from. The kendama is thought to have originated from the cup and ball drinking game, which was popular at the time. The cup and ball game consists of a wine glass type cup with a string tied tied to the stem of the cup and a ball at the end of the string. the game is played by holing the cup and swinging the ball in the string in order to make it swing up and land in the cup.
Kendama is similar, except it consists of a ball and string attatched to a small hammer-like piece as a handle with three cups and spike on top. The object of the game is to catch the ball in one of the cups, or to perform various tricks holding the ball and balancing different parts of the kendama on top of the ball.
