Base Cup Kendama
Today we are here to learn how to catch the base cup with a kendama in Ken grip. Be sure you go read the grip tutorial so that you’re familiar with Ken grip and then we’re gonna move on to this trick.
Now to get started I want you to begin by having the spike facing mostly straight up and the big cup facing your body. Using our knees we’re gonna go down slow and when we pop the ball straight up we’re gonna turn our wrist over so that the spike now faces straight down and the base Cup faces straight up.
If you try to catch and hold the base cup up high above your waistline, it’s gonna feel really awkward. If you hold the kendama down below the waistline it will be much easier to balance the tama on the bottom cup.
Tips To Catch Base Cup
Now when you’re going for the base cup I want you to focus, as the ball is in the air, to twist your wrist just like you’re turning a doorknob so that the base cup is perfectly facing up towards the sky. When you do this you can imagine like the ball is almost gonna land on your pinky. If your pinky is right on the edge of the ring this is gonna help you aim to catch it on the base cup with a little more ease.
And as with any trick, it’s important to use our knees. When we use our knees that’s gonna give us more time to track the ball down and successfully follow it all the way to the cup. So putting all those steps together, we have a nice and controlled wrist turn and there you have a base cup catch.
I hope this tutorial helped you out. Be sure to go check out the rest of our tutorials and we’ll see you next time.
